1. The Guitar, 2008

The Guitar, 2008
USA
Director Amy Redford

Melody Wilder (Saffron Burrows) is having a bad day. She’s just found out that she’s got inoperable throat cancer and has been fired from her job of 4 years. When she turns to her boyfriend for consolation, he dumps her before she gets to tell him.
Her condition is terminal with a maximum of two months to live. So far, her life has been lived squarely between the lines and has always been safe and thrifty. Just as she loses all hope, she leaves her mundane existence behind. It takes the news of her impending death for her to truly start living.
Melody changes everything about her life. She starts by moving into a massive loft from her space basement suite; filling her new home with beautiful things. Her vegetarian diet is out too. She also fulfills her childhood dream of owning a red Fender Stratacaster. The instrument represents everything she’s always wanted but have lived her life too carefully to pursue.
With only a short time to live, she intends to live her new lifestyle financed by credit. It’s short sighted, but she figures she’ll be gone soon enough. Melody has this great line, “There is no tomorrow, all my tomorrows are yesterday.” Depending on how she goes forward, the movie either chronicles her imminent death or her remaining life.
